Our Story

Ikhaya Le Langa (the house of Sun) is a ‘not for profit’ operating in Langa the oldest township in the Western Cape and is located at the site of a dilapidated former primary school.
It is from here this not for profit is establishing the Langa Quarter an area of 13 streets comprising 500  hundred homes approximately +- 7,000 people.

This community has languished at the bottom of the racial social order in Cape Town for generations. 20 years into democracy, this remarkable community continues to suffer from
the associated problems that come from deep poverty, urban decay and unemployment; gangsterism, unemployment, alcoholism, substance abuse , apathy, criminality to name but
a few.

Ikhaya le Langa intends to reverse this through the Langa Quarter , a social enterprise precinct that showcases this heritage and cultural  diamond’ Home to many South African jazz
legends and makers of history. Strategically located in the geographic center of Cape Town and  midway between the Airport and the City Center and the CBD our aim is to make the
Langa Quarter one of the top ten Tourist Destinations in  Cape Town.
